USL PRO News Release

Tuesday, April 16, 2013

TAMPA, Fla. – USL PRO named its Team of the Week for Week Four of the season on Tuesday, with the Los Angeles Blues’ Carl Woszczynski earning Player of the Week honors after recording an eight-save shutout against Orlando City during the Blues’ 1-0 victory this past Wednesday, the first of two wins for Los Angeles during the week.

Woszczynski had a standout performance against the Lions, keeping the Blues in the game in the opening 45 minutes. Seven of his eight saves came in the first half as he denied good opportunities for both Long Tan and Dom Dwyer to keep the game scoreless. Woszczynski also put in a solid performance in the Blues’ second game of the week, as they took a 3-1 win against Phoenix FC to remain on top of the USL PRO standings.

Woszczynski’s Blues teammate, Cory Miller, earned a second consecutive berth on the Team of the Week after scoring what proved to be the game-winning goal in the Blues’ win against Phoenix. After heading up field for a free kick, the tall center back headed home a cross from Rodrigo Lopez to give his side an early 2-0 lead.

Richmond’s William Yomby joined Miller in earning a second Team of the Week selection as he anchored the Kickers’ defensive line in their victory against the Charleston Battery. Richmond’s Casey Townsend, who is on a season-long loan from D.C. United, was also selected after he scored a pair of goals in the 4-1 win.

USL PRO’s two Florida sides each had a pair of players named, with VSI Tampa Bay’s Douglas Dos Santos earning his selection after an outstanding goal and overall performance in his side’s 3-0 win against Rochester. He was joined by Josh Rife, who played a solid 90 minutes marshalling VSI’s back four.

Orlando City’s Jamie Watson earned his selection after being a consistent threat for the Lions in their 3-1 win against the Rhinos, while Bryan Burke was also named after a good night of work down the right side that saw him earn an assist on Dom Dwyer’s goal early in the second half.

Rounding out the Team of the Week, Charlotte’s Christian Ramirez had a strong performance in his professional debut, scoring the second goal in a 2-0 win against Antigua. Pittsburgh’s Matt Dallman was also named as he had a positive impact coming on as a substitute, providing the assist for Jose Angulo to score the first goal in Highmark Stadium History, while Harrisburg’s Sainey Touray earned his selection after acting as a catalyst for the City Islanders’ comeback victory against the Riverhounds.

The 2013 USL PRO season continues on Friday night as the Los Angeles Blues visit Orlando City at 7:30 p.m. ET in a contest between two sides that have made strong starts to the season. Also on Friday night, the Rochester Rhinos visit the Charlotte Eagles at 7 p.m. ET, and the Wilmington Hammerheads open their campaign with a visit from Antigua Barracuda FC.

The Charleston Battery also host their home opener as Antigua visits Blackbaud Stadium at 7:30 p.m. ET, while Rochester completes its weekend road trip with a visit to the Richmond Kickers at 7 p.m. ET.
