TUKWILA, Wash. – The Sounders Women have signed Oregon State University standout and U-20 Canadian International Jenna Richardson for the 2013 W-League season, pending international transfer clearance. In Sunday’s exhibition game against OSU, fans were given a glimpse of the talented forward as Richardson helped elevate the Beavers to a 1-0 victory against the Sounders Women.
“I coached Jenna as a youth in Canada, and to have her join us here in Seattle is fantastic," Head Coach & GM hubert Busby, Jr. said. "She stretches the game with her speed and she has the ability to beat players 1 v 1.”
A junior at Oregon State University, the 5-foot-7 forward is regarded as one of the best players in college soccer. Her performance during the 2012 season with the Beavers earned her a spot on TopDrawerSoccer.com’s Women’s National Top 100 player rankings, as well as numerous Pac-12 awards and honors.
Prior to signing with the Sounders Women, Richardson spent three years with the W-League’s Vancouver Whitecaps FC. In 2012, Richardson was named to the W-League’s All Western Conference Team after leading the Whitecaps in total points with four goals and four assists during the season.
“I’m extremely excited to play for Coach Hubert again and be a part of the Sounder’s organization," Richardson said. "When I played for the Whitecaps, the Sounders were our biggest competition, so I’m excited to have this new experience on a new team.”
A native to Surrey, B.C., the 20-year-old striker represented team Canada at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Japan, adding international experience to a Sounders roster already laden with youth national team players.
The Sounders Women play their second match of the preseason on April 26 against Seattle University. Single-match tickets are currently on sale on www.SoundersWomen.com.
