FULLERTON, Calif. – The Los Angeles Blues will be holding their open tryouts for the 2012 season on the weekend of January 21-22 at Fullerton College. The tryouts constitute an opportunity for any free agents, eligible college seniors and other amateurs hoping to play professionally for the USL PRO club during the upcoming campaign.
For the Los Angeles coaching staff led by Charlie Naimo and Shayon Jalayer, the weekend marks one of the most important dates of the preseason calendar, as they hope to discover overlooked talents such as 2011 Blues defender Leon Abravanel, who emerged from last January’s open tryouts.
Interested candidates should visit www.labluesprosoccer.com to find out how to register. The event will see six scrimmages and two goalkeeper sessions, all of which will take place on the school’s football field. Participants are thus required to bring the proper footgear for playing on artificial turf.
There will be a $150 signup fee, which will change to $175 after January 13. The walkup registration fee will be $200. The Marriott Fullerton will be offering participants discounted hotel rooms at $89/night as well as a free shuttle service to and from Fullerton College. Discounted car rentals will be available at $29/day from LAXpress Van Rental, located near Los Angeles International Airport. Further information can be found on the Blues’ website.
Anyone interested in playing for the USL PRO side’s Premier Development League affiliate, Blues 23, should also stay tuned to the club's website, as details for separate tryouts will be announced soon.
