WILMINGTON, N.C. -- After defeating the Dayton Dutch Lions 2-1 on Saturday night, the Wilmington Hammerheads secured second place in the USL PRO American Division and have earned a home game in the American Division Semifinal. The Hammerheads will play host to the Richmond Kickers on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. at Legion Stadium.
The winner of Friday’s match will advance to the American Division Final to take on the winner of the other American Division Semifinal between No.1 seed Orlando and No. 4 seed Charleston, who play on Saturday night at the Florida Citrus Bowl.
The first 2011 match up between the Kickers and the Hammerheads took place in Richmond on May 7 when the Kickers rose above the Hammerheads with a 2-1 victory. The Hammerheads were one of six teams that were defeated by Richmond in the beginning of the season when the Kickers went undefeated for seven consecutive games.
The Hammerheads last appearance at their home field of Legion Stadium was against the Kickers just a week ago when goals by Matthew Delicate and Ryan Heins led Richmond to triumph against the Hammerheads 2-0. Friday’s match up will be a true test to the Hammerheads who have yet to beat the Kickers this season.
Should the Hammerheads and the Battery advance to the American Division Final, the match will take place in Wilmington at Legion Stadium. Should Orlando and Wilmington advance, the Hammerheads will travel south to Florida.
Gates and the ticket booth will open at 6 p.m. on Friday. Tickets at the gate will be $12 for adults, $10 for seniors 65+, and $8 for children ages 4-12. Fans can receive $2 off tickets if purchased at the Hammerhead office or by phone at 910-777-2111 through Thursday, August 18. Tickets are also available for online purchase at www.wilmingtontickets.com. No coupons, discounts, or special offers will be accepted at the ticket booth.
