USL News Release

Tuesday, August 16, 2011

TAMPA, Fla. – The USL PRO Team of the Week was announced today for Week 19 of the 2011 season, honoring Charleston Battery midfielder Mike Zaher as Player of the Week after he scored a pair of goals to help the Battery earn the final berth in the USL PRO playoffs with a 4-3 victory against the Charlotte Eagles on Friday night.

Zaher scored twice in the first half of the Battery’s victory, the first a brilliant left-footed volley into the upper-right corner of the net to add to Zach Prince’s opener. Zaher then scored the Battery’s third goal in the 30th minute, turning his defender well before firing a low right-footed shot into the right corner of the net.

Last week’s USL PRO Player of the Week, Jamie Watson of Orlando City, returns to the Team of the Week after his hat trick against the Harrisburg City Islanders gave the Lions a big boost before they open the playoffs against the Battery on Saturday night. Watson is joined by teammate Rob Valentino, who continued his strong season by helping shut down Harrisburg’s potent attack.

F.C. New York’s Jhonny Arteaga earned his place on the team after an outstanding four-goal game against the Dayton Dutch Lions in the final game of FCNY’s season last Wednesday, and he is joined in the Team of the Week’s forward line by Wilmington’s Andryi Budnyy, who had a pair of assists for the Hammerheads in their victory against Dayton and Harrisburg’s Jose Angulo, who grabbed victory for the City Islanders against Charlotte last Wednesday night with an 87th-minute goal.

Also selected to the Team of the Week are the Rochester Rhinos duo of Troy Roberts and Rich Constanzo, with the Rhinos captain maintaining his strong season at the heart of the Rhinos defense and Costanzo scoring the game-winning goal against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds in a 1-0 victory on Saturday night.
