TAMPA, Fla. – One of the most potent scoring tandems in the league helped F.C. New York dominate the list as USL PRO announced its 2011 regular season honors. Led by striker Jhonny Arteaga and midfielder Tadeu Terra, who had a hand in 22 of the team’s 27 goals, F.C. New York captured three of four categories.
Buoyed by a four-goal performance in his team’s final game of the season, Arteaga is the USL PRO Goal Scoring Champion after recording 13 goals in 21 games. Richmond’s Matthew Delicâte, who tallied 10 goals, finished as runner-up for the second consecutive season.
Arteaga, who spent the 2010 season playing professionally in Poland, also is the Scoring Champion with 27 points, four better than Delicâte and Wilmington’s Luke Mulholland. Terra, a native of Brazil and 2010 St. John’s University graduate, recorded eight assists in 20 games to be named Assist Champion. Terra, who played three seasons with the PDL’s Long Island Rough Riders, was one assist better than Charlotte Eagles setup ace Jorge Herrera.
At the other end of the field, Orlando City’s Miguel Gallardo earns the title Goals-Against Average Champion by virtue of a miniscule 0.681 average in 21 games played. Gallardo allowed only 15 goals, led USL PRO in shutouts with 11, and tied for the lead in wins with 12.
Gallardo will lead Orlando City into the 2011 USL PRO Playoffs Saturday when Orlando City plays host to the Charleston Battery at the Florida Citrus Bowl. USL PRO’s other three Division Semifinals are set for Friday night with the Harrisburg City Islanders hosting the Los Angeles Blues, the Rochester Rhinos hosting the Pittsburgh Riverhounds and the Wilmington Hammerheads hosting the Richmond Kickers. The division champions will advance to the 2011 USL PRO Championship game, which will be seen live on FOX Soccer on Saturday, September 3.
