CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Charlotte Eagles are excited to announce the signing of Mario Gomez and Richard Njoh Edimo pending International Transfer Clearance and USSF Approval.
Gomez, 27, is a native of Bogota, Colombia and most recently played for Deportivo Pasto of the Colombia Primera A, the top division in Colombia. In 2012 Gomez played for Santa Fe when the team won the Torneo Apetura in 2012. Santa Fe advanced to the Semifinals of the 2013 Copa Libertadores before falling to Olympia of Paraguay.
Gomez comes to the United States after playing nine seasons in the Primera A for clubs Santa Fe, Juventud Soacha, Deportes Quindío and Deportivo Pasto. He scored in his first action for the Eagles in their preseason game against Appalachian State on Tuesday, April 18th. Gomez received a ball from Ben Newnam on the left wing, took on an App State defender before firing into the far right corner of the goal.
Njoh Edimo, 20, is a native of Douala, Cameroon. He most recently played for Douala Athletic Club after starting his career with the Daga Young Stars in Cameroon. In 30 matches for Douala Athletic Club, Edimo scored 12 goals. In 2012 Njoh Edimo was promoted from the Cameroon U-17 to the U-20 National Team.
The young Cameroonian striker was also on trial briefly with Anderlecht of the Belgian Premier League but was not signed by the Belgian club.
