CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The Charleston Battery (6-3-1) are back at Blackbaud Stadium on Wednesday night to take on the Charlotte Eagles (3-2-4). The Battery are coming off a 2-1 loss on Friday night against the Harrisburg City Islanders. Wednesday’s game is a ‘Paws at the Baud’ promotion presented by the Rick Hendrick Automotive Group to benefit Pet Helpers. Fans can bring their soccer-loving dogs to the stadium for this one special evening.
Rookie midfielder Ben Fisk scored early for the Battery last Friday with a nice first-time finish, but Harrisburg responded with a goal just one minute later and another early in the second half to overcome the Battery’s lead.
The Eagles handed the Battery their second loss of the season in mid-May, defeating Charleston 1-0 behind a goal by Shaun Francis. The game was played in Charlotte at the Queens University Sports Complex.
Both teams are among the oldest franchises in the USL each entering their 21st season. The Eagles have experienced considerable success with playoff runs in 15 of their last 20 seasons, seven trips to the finals, and two USL Second Division Championships. Charlotte is coached by Mark Steffens, who is in his 17th season with the team.
With 13 points, the Eagles currently sit in the eighth position of the USL PRO standings while the Battery maintains a share of fourth place with the LA Blues on 19 points.
