QUEENS, NY – FC New York fell to Orlando City 2-1 in their USL PRO inaugural home opener at Belson Stadium at St. John’s University in Queens, NY. A near capacity crowd of 2,011 was on hand to see FC New York in its home debut. Owen Morrison scored the lone goal for FC New York in the 54th minute, which tied the match.
Orlando City scored a goal in both halves, as Lawrence Olum scored in the first half, and Lewis Neal scored on a free kick just outside the penalty box in the 2nd half. With the loss, FC New York falls to 0-2-1 on the season.
Prior to the game, a press conference was held at Belson Stadium for the inaugural season of F.C. New York. Remarks and comments were made by USL Pro Senior Director Chris Economides, FC New York Co-President Doug Petersen, and FC New York Special Advisor Michael Nussbaum. Several city officials were on-hand, including Councilmen Peter Koo, Dan Halloran, Karen Kosolwitz, and Mark Weprin. Senator Shirley Huntley and Assemblymen Michael Dendekker, Edward Braunstein, Francison Moya, and Rory Lancman were also in attendance.
FC New York looks to bounce back in their second home game as they take on the Harrisburg City Islanders on Saturday, May 7th at 7:30 PM.
