DAYTON, OHIO - The Dayton Dutch Lions fell to the undefeated Richmond Kickers Saturday night at Miami Valley South Stadium 6-0 in USL PRO action. The Dutch Lions conceded a goal in the early minutes of the match to Richmond forward Matthew Delicate and the match would end in a tough defeat.
"The Kickers were extremely effective in the counter attack," said Head Coach Ivar van Dinteren. "We were unable to put away the opportunities we had and as the second half progressed we weren’t able to come back."
In the first half, Richmond started off strong with a goal in 4th minute by forward Matthew Delicate assisted by Sascha Gorres. Countering well throughout the match, Richmond put their second goal on the board in the 32nd minute when midfielder Edson Elcock assisted Stanley Nyazamba.
Entering the second half down two, the Dutch Lions tried desperately to find the back of the net. Creating chances and possessing the ball well midway through the second half, the Kickers counter attacks were too much for the Dutch defense.
In the 60th minute Ryan Heins put the Kickers up by three. Heins played a ball to Delicate who headed in his second.
Another counter attack led to the Kickers fourth goal scored by forward David Bulow in the 66th minute.
Adding to a frustrated Dutch Lions defense, goalkeeper Jesper Leerdam was red carded after tripping up forward Bulow in the box in the 69th minute. The Kickers converted the penalty for another goal, putting them up 5-0.
Solidifying the Kicker’s victory in the 85th minute, forward Shaka Bangura finished a break away to seal the match at 6-0.
The Dutch Lion’s next match will be next Saturday at home in Miami Valley South Stadium at 7:30pm versus Orlando City. Aiming for their first victory in USL PRO, the Dutch Lions will look for a better result aginst the Three Lions.
