WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Wilmington Hammerheads have officially announced the return of Canadian goalkeeper Troy Hernandez for the forthcoming 2013 USL PRO regular season. Hernandez will rejoin the Hammerheads following his debut season with the Baltimore Blast of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL).

Hernandez ended his first season with the Blast winning the 2013 MISL Championship after defeating the Missouri Comets, 8-6, in Game Two of the MISL Championship Series.

“I’m excited to be back with the team for another season,” said Hernandez. “I’m ready to make a go at the title once more.”

Hernandez saw his first game action in the Hammerheads’ 3-2 quarterfinal win over the Richmond Kickers during playoffs when starting goalkeeper Alex Horwath left the game due to injury. Hernandez then delivered an excellent performance in a 4-3 win against Orlando City in the semifinals that led to the Hammerheads’ advance into the 2012 USL PRO Championship.

Hernandez first signed with the Wilmington Hammerheads in June 2012 after he attended a Florida combine in 2011 and joined a 2012 European Showcase Tour, both hosted by Pro Soccer Consulting (PSC). Hammerheads Head Coach David Irving has worked closely with PSC to scout and recruit potential talent each season and has partnered with them to host numerous combines in Florida, England, Maryland, as well as a recent preseason tour in Turkey.
