ORLANDO, Fla. – Orlando City Soccer Club announced today the signing of Jean Alexandre to a two-game loan from San Jose Earthquakes of Major League Soccer. Alexandre, who previously spent time on loan with Orlando in June, will join the team before their two matches against the LA Blues this weekend.
Alexandre was drafted by Real Salt Lake as the 12th pick (first round) of the 2009 MLS SuperDraft. He made 38 appearances over three seasons with RSL, scoring for the first time last season against the Vancouver Whitecaps. He was then traded to San Jose Earthquakes after the 2011 season.
The midfielder, who was on loan with Orlando from June 6 to June 18, provided an immediate spark for the Lions. The Delray Beach, Fla., native scored off a header in City’s 2-1 win over the Charleston Battery while applying constant pressure in the final third in Orlando’s 2-0 shutout against Antigua Barracuda FC.
“Every time I play here I love it,” Alexandre said after the team’s 2-1 victory over Charleston. “This is a really good team.”
Including the two matches this weekend, Alexandre will have played a total of four with Orlando. Five is the minimum requirement in the USL PRO for a loan to be eligible for playoffs.
With the addition of Alexandre today, Orlando will have two new faces for the matches against the Los Angeles Blues this weekend. Rodrigo Lopez, a midfielder who spent time with Chivas USA and the Portland Timbers, was added yesterday and hopes to provide an immediate impact for the Lions in an important two-game series against the Blues.
The Lions square off against the Blues on Friday and Sunday night. Both matches will be broadcast on USLNation.com, with kickoff set for 10:30 p.m. ET and 8 p.m. ET respectively.
