The Super Y-League 2012 season is moving into high gear as the summer months draw nearer, and this week’s standout players once again come from the Mid Atlantic and New England divisions.

Derrick Amoaka
Ocean City FC U14 Boys

Amoaka scored both of his team’s goals as Ocean City FC defeated TSF Academy 2-1 Sunday.

TSF scored just before the halftime whistle, and the Ocean City players were challenged to step up during the break.

“Derrick did just that,” Coach Tim Donnelly said.

Ocean City used a throw-in to their advantage in the second half, with Griffin Schappell flicking a header in the direction of Amoaka, who finished with his own header past the goalkeeper to draw level. With five minutes left, Amoaka received a long pass at the top of the TSF box, fought his way through some defenders, and scored the game-winning goal.

The defensive play of John Archibal, Doug Gant, Nate Bledsoe, Kris Hartung, and goalkeeper Daemon Durham preserved the win for Ocean City FC during the few minutes remaining.

The Ocean City FC U14 Boys are tied atop the Mid Atlantic Division at 2-1.

Trevor Murdock
MPS Crusaders U13 Boys

Murdock scored two penalty kicks and added an assist in a 3-3 draw with Black Watch SC in a New England Division clash.

The Crusaders were leading 3-1 thanks to Murdock, but Black Watch was able to come back into the game.

“Trevor was a constant threat to the Black Watch defense and took both of his goals very well,” Coach Martyn Emery said. “His individual play in one-v-one situations created a number of chances for the team.

“Let’s hope he can maintain this form throughout the remainder of the Super Y season.”

Diego Salerno
Central Jersey Spartans U16 Boys

In his first game with the Central Jersey Spartans, Salerno scored five goals in a 7-0 win against Ocean City FC.

“Diego was virtually unstoppable playing up front for us,” Coach Anthony Nixon said. “He is a natural finisher and plays with an uncanny desire to put the ball in the back of the net.”

The Spartans also got a goal from Daniel Moylan, while Hunter Ackerson, Brett Conrads, and Kevin Hopkins each registered an assist to help Central Jersey to a season-opening win.
