Thursday, May 24, 2012

LITTLETON, Co. - The Colorado Rush (2-0-0) return home Thursday night after a successful 2-0 road trip to British Columbia. Rush will host the Victoria Highlanders (1-1-0), whom they beat 1-0 in the second game of the road trip.

The initial weekend of play for the Rush in 2012 was one of firsts as the Rush started 2-0 for the first time and beat the Vancouver Whitecaps for the first time in club history. Colorado's 17-year-old striker Danica Evans was named W-League Player of the Week for her performance during the weekend as she tallied both game-winning goals in the pair of 1-0 victories against Vancouver and Victoria.

“Danica’s goals earned us the valuable points and that is what is most important, but what cannot get lost in the recognition is her performance and work ethic over the 180 minutes of soccer she played," Coach Erik Bushey said. "The goals were a byproduct of these things. She was outstanding in every aspect,”

Defender Sam Harder was named to the W-League Team of the Week for her role in the two shutouts and Midfielder Brittany Bock was also an Honorable Mention for her efforts.

The Rush are undefeated in their first two home openers, having beaten the LA Strikers in 2011 and having played to a draw with the Seattle Sounders Women in 2010. Thursday’s game will mark the first appearance of the ‘Rush Blue Bloods’ fan club that aim to be the best cheering section in the league.

Valor Christian High School Stadium will play host to the second leg of the Rush/Victoria series. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. MT and tickets are available at www.coloradorushwomen.com/index.php/tickets.
