ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Rochester Rhinos put together their best performance of the preseason to date in a 1-0 victory against the University of Buffalo on Sunday afternoon at Sahlen’s Stadium. Coach Jesse Myers fielded a side full of players who will probably be first-team regulars this season for the first hour of the match. Myers made nine changes to the team that defeated Colgate University on Friday night with German goalkeeper Kristian Nicht and Jack Traynor the only two holdovers.
Rhinos captain Troy Roberts, center back Tyler Bellamy, center midfielder Tyler Rosenlund, forward Tam McManus, wingers JC Banks and Danny Earls, and striker Graciano Brito all returned to the starting lineup. Left back Michael Zaher made his first appearance of the pre-season. Myers also gave right back Mac Hemmi his first start of the 2012 preseason
Bellamy scored the Rhinos' goal at the stroke of halftime. Earls played a corner kick into the far post and Zaher volleyed the ball out of the air with his left foot. UB’s goalkeeper made the initial save but could not hold onto the ball. JC Banks got to the loose ball first and squared it to Bellamy on the goal line for a tap-in.
Neither Nicht nor substitute Brandon Miller recorded a save in sharing the clean sheet.
The Rhinos' next preseason game is Wednesday, April 4th at 10AM against the Montreal Impact’s U21s at Sahlen’s Stadium. Admission to the match is free.
