Roswess, Kapinos Return To Pioneers

LUDLOW, Mass. – As the Western Mass Pioneers continue to develop their 2012 team, two notable players return from the 2011 squad, Chris Roswess (University of Massachusetts/West Springfield High School) and Jayme Kapinos (Southern New Hampshire University/Ludlow High School).

Roswess has been a part of the Pioneers for the last two seasons, playing at the outside half and the forward position. Since his freshman year, Roswess has been a consistent starter for the UMass Minutemen. A 2007 graduate of West Springfield High School where he was a two-time All-New England selection and named the New England Division I MVP in 2007. Roswess was named to the All-Western Mass Second-Team as a freshman, and the All-Massachusetts team as a sophomore. He attended Bridgton Academy in 2007-08 where he also played soccer. At West Springfield, Roswess scored 67 goals and added 23 assists, and tallied 24 goals and nine assists at Bridgton Academy.

Kapinos is another local talent from Ludlow, Mass. Kapinos had an accomplished playing career at Southern New Hampshire University, playing defense and starting every game with the exception of two games in his freshman year. In 2011 Kapinos was a Northeast-10 First Team All-Conference selection, a Daktronics Second Team All-Region selection, and was selected to compete in the NEISL Senior All-Star Game. Kapinos finished his career as the program’s all-time leader in games played (86). A 2007 graduate of Ludlow HS and a 2008 graduate of Avon Old Farms, Kapinos helped lead AOF to a 16-1-2 record and the NEPSAC Class A title in 2007. Kapinos was also a First Team All-Western Mass as a senior at Ludlow and helped the Lions to a pair of Western Mass title games.

“It is important that we showcase local talent with our organization. The local pride in soccer that has been established in Ludlow and the surrounding communities is critical to the success of the team and to our fans,” said head coach Federico Molinari.

The Western Mass Pioneers season opener is Friday, May 11th, 7:30 p.m. at Lusitano Stadium against the Seacoast United Phantoms, sponsored by Big Y World Class Markets.

In addition to the home opener, the Pioneers will be hosting a Fan Appreciation and Media Day at the Milford Lusitano Stadium. There will be free admission as a “Thank You” to all the supporters and fans of the club. Also, this gives the media an opportunity to meet with the players and receive one on one time.

The Western Mass Pioneers are an amateur men’s soccer team that plays in the Premier Developmental League, a division of the United Soccer Leagues. The USL is the largest collection of professional and amateur soccer leagues in the United States. The Pioneers play in Ludlow, Mass. at Lusitano Stadium, an intimate European-style soccer-specific stadium. The team was founded in 1997 and began playing in 1998. In 1999, the Pioneers won the USL D-3 Pro League championship.
