TAMPA, Fla. – The Major Indoor Soccer League surpassed the 100,000 attendance mark for the 2011-12 season as fans continued to enjoy the action from the world’s top indoor soccer league. Almost 16,000 fans attended the weekend’s four games, with big crowds seeing a pair of thrilling contests in Baltimore as the Blast hosted the Missouri Comets and Syracuse Silver Knights.
The Comets reached their midway point of the regular season with a pair of victories, including a last-minute win against the Blast on Friday night that saw the league’s new leading scorer Geison grab the game-winning goal with 32 seconds to play. The Brazilian’s 3-point goal gave the Comets a 12-10 victory as they rallied to score the game’s final 10 points in front of 5,924 fans at 1st Mariner Arena.
The Comets also took victory on Saturday night against the Norfolk SharX to move to 7-3 this season. The two wins kept them in position for the postseason and within range of the Milwaukee Wave, who maintained their undefeated start to the season with a victory against the Rochester Lancers on Saturday night.
The Syracuse Silver Knights also took a big victory to snap their five-game winless streak against Baltimore on Saturday night. Jeff Hughes scored a game-winning 3-pointer with just over five minutes remaining to give Syracuse a 12-9 win and move within 1.5 games of Baltimore in the Eastern Division.
The Silver Knights face a crucial game this weekend as they travel to face division and in-state rival the Rochester Lancers on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. With just half a game separating the two teams for the second playoff place in the Eastern Division, and the Lancers having claimed back-to-back victories against the Silver Knights in their past two meetings, the latest chapter in this new rivalry at Blue Cross Arena should be a must-see, either in person or on MISL Live.
All four of the weekend’s contests will be available on MISL Live (www.misllivesoccer.com), with a pair of key games on Friday night. First the Baltimore Blast and Missouri Comets will meet at 1st Mariner Arena at 7:35 p.m. ET, and that’s followed by a Central Division showdown between the Milwaukee Wave and Wichita Wings at U.S. Cellular Arena at 8 p.m. ET. With the Wings rested after a week off, they’ll look to not only build on their two-game winning streak, but also hand the Wave their first defeat of the season.
The weekend concludes on Sunday afternoon as the Norfolk SharX host the Blast at Scope Arena at 4:30 p.m., with Norfolk looking to earn its first victory of the season.
