Silver Knights Take Late Win vs. Blast

BALTIMORE, Md. - The Blast fell to 0-3 at home and 5-3 overall after giving up a 9-4 third-quarter lead to the visiting Syracuse Silver Knights who left 1st Mariner Arena with a 12-9 victory Saturday night. Syracuse Defender Jeff Hughes scored the game-winning three-point goal to break a 9-9 tie and improve the Silver Knights’ record to 4-5 in front of 5,716 fans.

Daniel Stevens and Alex Megson scored first-quarter goals for the Silver Knights for an early 4-0 lead before Blast defender Mike Lookingland scored to trim Syracuse’s lead to 4-2.

Early in the second quarter Machel Millwood forced his way through the midfield to score a three-point goal and give the Blast their first lead of the night, 5-4.

The Blast jumped out to the 9-4 third-quarter lead on goals from rookie J.T. Noone and leading-scorer Max Ferdinand before the Silver Knights rallied in the last minute of the quarter to tie the game at 9-9. Stevens scored his second goal of the night to cut the Blast lead to 9-6 and a deflection off a Blast player gave the Silver Knights the three-point goal that tied the game with 21 seconds left in the quarter.

Hughes scored at 9:02 of the final quarter to snap Syracuse’s five-game losing streak. The Blast turned to the sixth-attacker offense with nearly 2:30 remaining but were unable to generate the scoring opportunity needed for the win.

Up Next:
The Blast return to 1st Mariner Arena on Friday, December 16 to host the Missouri Comets before traveling to Norfolk to play the SharX for the first time this season on the 18th.
