MISL News Release
Wednesday, December 7, 2011
TAMPA, Fla. – The Milwaukee Wave and Baltimore Blast met for last year’s MISL Championship, and the two teams have picked up where they left off last season to start the 2011-12 campaign. Sitting atop their respective divisions with only one defeat between them, both teams have been outstanding so far.
Milwaukee continued its undefeated start to the season this past Friday night in remarkable contest against division rival the Missouri Comets at U.S. Cellular Arena. Hewerton Moreira had four goals, while four of his teammates had at least four points apiece in a 24-18 victory that saw end-to-end action for all four quarters.
Baltimore has been almost as impressive, taking their fifth consecutive road victory with a win against the Rochester Lancers on Saturday night. The Blast’s tight defense, led by November Goalkeeper of the Month Sagu, has been a key to their success, conceding a league-low 4.3 goals-per game.
The Blast finally return to 1st Mariner Arena this weekend, with big crowds expected as they host the Missouri Comets on Friday night at 7:35 p.m. ET in the league’s marquee match-up of the week. Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith will be a guest of the Blast’s for Friday’s contest, hosting a ‘Throw to the Pro’ competition at halftime.
The Blast then meet the Syracuse Silver Knights on Saturday at 7:35 p.m. ET. After another strong week of attendance, the MISL will go past the 100,000 fans plateau this weekend, in just its sixth weekend of the season. The league is also on course to comfortably surpass the league’s total attendance of a season ago, which fell just short of 200,000 fans.
In addition to the Blast’s two home contests, the Milwaukee Wave and Norfolk SharX will also play host this Saturday as the MISL has a four-game slate that can all be seen on MISL Live (www.misllivesoccer.com). The Wave will try to extend their winning streak to six when they host the Rochester Lancers at 6 p.m. CT, currently sitting in second place in the Eastern Division, while the SharX will host the Comets at 7 p.m. ET.
