ORLANDO, Fla. – Orlando City is proud to announce the signing of forward Matt Luzunaris, pending USSF and league approval. Luzunaris played a year of college soccer at the University of Central Florida before beginning his pro career in Europe.

Luzunaris joins Orlando City from Major League Soccer’s San Jose Earthquakes, but is no stranger to Head Coach Adrian Heath’s system. During the 2011 season, Luzunaris joined City on loan. He appeared in three games and scored two goals, including the Lions' only goal against English Premier League side Bolton Wanderers.

“We’re delighted to have Matt back," said Heath. “I know he’s had a few offers but we’re excited to have him here back in Florida. We think he’ll be a huge success in our league and on our team. Knowing Matt, he’ll have a lot to prove and bring out an ambition in him that we find valuable.”

Prior to joining San Jose in 2011, Luzunaris spent his professional career in Europe. He signed his first professional contract with Schqanenstadt in Austria, had a loan spell with Botafogo in Brazil in 2009, and also spent time with SV Wienerberg and SK Rapid Wein in Austria. In total, Luzunaris made 10 first-team appearances in Europe, and scored five goals.

Luzunaris played a year of college soccer at UCF. He scored four goals for the Knights, and earned a call-up to the U.S. Under-20 National Team. His play at UCF earned him attention from European scouts, leading him to leave the Knights after his freshman season.
