MISL News Release
Thursday, December 1, 2011
TAMPA, Fla. – The Major Indoor Soccer League announced its Players of the Month for November on Thursday, with the Syracuse Silver Knights’ Slavisa Ubiparipovic being named the Offensive Player of the Month, the Milwaukee Wave’s Joe Hammes being named Defensive Player of the Month and the Baltimore Blast’s Sagu being named Goalkeeper of the Month.
Ubiparipovic claimed Offensive Player of the Month honors after leading the MISL in points and total goals. The Bosnian recorded a four-goal, 10-point game against Norfolk in the Silver Knights’ second game of the season and was a key figure as the expansion side won its first three games of the season.
Hammes has not only been a key figure in the Wave’s defense, which has averaged just nine goals against this season, but also has been a factor offensively. The 32-year-old recorded a hat trick in the Wave’s second game of the season, which garnered him Player of the Week consideration, and has 12 points this season, tied for most by a defender.
Sagu was named the MISL Player of the Week for the third week of the season, but has been a model of consistency throughout the month. The 2010-11 MISL Goalkeeper of the Year has recorded a .766 save percentage, more than .040 ahead of his nearest rival, and in the Blast’s four victories in the month he recorded a points-against average of 8.25.
The MISL season continues with six games this weekend, including the Wichita Wings looking to build on a victory in their last home game when they host the Syracuse Silver Knights and Norfolk SharX at Hartman Arena on Friday and Saturday night. The week’s schedule kicks off tonight as the SharX host the Rochester Lancers, with a rematch of the 2010-11 MISL Playoff semifinal between the Milwaukee Wave and Missouri Comets scheduled for Friday night.
Four of the weekend’s games will be streamed live on MISL Live (MISLlivesoccer.com), with the battle for position in the Eastern Division continuing when the Rochester Lancers host the Baltimore Blast on Saturday night at 7 p.m. ET. Then on Sunday, the two top-scoring teams in the league meet as the Syracuse Silver Knights face the Missouri Comets at 4:10 p.m.
