AUSTIN, Texas -- The Austin Aztex of the USL Premier Development League today named Paul Dalglish as the club’s head coach for the 2012 season. The Scottish-born Dalglish brings extensive experience as a professional player in Europe and the United States, having started his youth career with storied clubs Celtic FC in Scotland and Liverpool FC in England, continuing as a professional player in England, Scotland and the United States. Dalglish played for the Houston Dynamo of Major League Soccer and helped the club capture two consecutive MLS Cup victories in 2006 and 2007.

Dalglish’s professional coaching experience includes a stint as the head coach for FC Tampa Bay during their inaugural season in 2010. In 2011 Dalglish was named Director of Soccer at the Lake Travis Youth Association where he currently heads their Dynamo Juniors program. His appointment with the Aztex will allow him to continue serving in this capacity.

“Austin is a wonderful city that has players and fans that are passionate about seeing the sport develop,” said Aztex new head coach Paul Dalglish. “The talent pool in this area is tremendous, and among my primary goals is to help develop young players into elite players that move seamlessly into the professional ranks.”

Orlando City SC head coach Adrian Heath said of Dalglish, “The Aztex have done well to name Paul as their head coach. He understands what it takes to play at the highest levels, and relates well to the players. I’m pleased to see Paul have the opportunity to coach again, and know that he and the team have a bright future ahead of them.”

In addition to the Premier Development League team, which will be coached by Dalglish, the Aztex will field a Super-20 team beginning in 2012. Additional members of the Aztex coaching staff for both teams will be named at a later date.
