TAMPA, Fla. – The Major Indoor Soccer League announced on Tuesday that Missouri Comets forward Geison had been named the league’s Player of the Week for the opening week of the 2011-12 season. Geison scored six goals and added an assist in a pair of victories for the Comets against their rival the Wichita Wings.
Geison led the Comets to victory on Friday night as he bagged a career-high five goals in the Comets’ 16-14 overtime victory, driving a low shot home at 4:29 of the overtime period to cap the victory. He then added a goal and assist in the Comets’ 14-4 victory the following night.
Other players considered for the award included Lubo Kocic of the Rochester Lancers, who had a hat trick in his side’s 16-15 defeat against the Syracuse Silver Knights on Friday night, and Missouri’s Ryan Junge, who had five points in the Comets’ 14-4 win against the Wings on Friday night.
The opening weekend of the MISL season was a resounding success off the field as well as on, with almost 13,000 fans attending the opening three games of the season. The return of the Wichita Wings drew a sellout crowd of 4,695 to Hartman Arena, with Missouri drawing almost 4,400 fans and Syracuse 3,670 to their opening games of the season.
The excitement is set to continue this weekend with the MISL’s remaining four teams holding their home openers, with the Norfolk SharX hosting the Syracuse Silver Knights at Scope Arena on Friday night at 7 p.m. ET.
The Rochester Lancers then host the Missouri Comets on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. ET, with league power the Baltimore Blast hosting the Silver Knights later that day at 7:35 p.m. ET. The weekend concludes with the defending champion Milwaukee Wave hosting the Wichita Wings at 4 p.m. ET on Sunday afternoon.
All four games will be streamed live on MISL Live (MISLlivesoccer.com), allowing fans from across the country to follow the world’s top professional indoor soccer league.
