TAMPA, Fla. – USL is saddened to hear of the passing of former Vancouver Whitecaps and Toronto Lynx player Winston Griffiths in his home country of Jamaica.
Griffiths played for the Whitecaps in the USL First Division in 2004. The midfielder scored two goals and added five assists in 23 games as Vancouver reached the Western Conference Final.
Griffiths also briefly played for the Lynx in the 2005 USL First Division season, joining the club on loan from Jamaican club Arnett Gardens. He made four appearances for the Lynx, scoring once.
Griffiths began his career in the United States in 2002 when he joined the Metrostars in Major League Soccer. He went on to play for both the Los Angeles Galaxy and New England Revolution. Internationally, Griffiths played 28 times for his country between 1998 and 2002, scoring twice.
