TAMPA, Fla. – Cal State Northridge’s Cynthia Jacobo is stopping everything that comes her way. Jacobo, who stood between the sticks for the W-League’s Santa Clarita Blue Heat this past season, earned her third clean sheet of the season this past weekend against No. 22-ranked Long Beach State. For her effort Jacobo picked up her second Big West Defensive Player of the Week award in three weeks.
Fellow goalkeeper Liz Ruiz also earned Defensive Player of the Week honors after her performance for Boise State in the Mountain West Conference. The former Seattle Sounders keeper made six saves against San Diego State to collect her fourth shutout of the season.
Becca Fisher of Davidson fired her way to Southern Conference Player of the Week with two goals and an assist in matches against the College of Charleston and the Citadel. Fisher lined up for the Fredericksburg Gunners in 2011.
Christabel Oduro collected Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week honors again for Memphis after scoring two game-winning goals. Oduro has W-League experience with Toronto and Hamilton and the striker helped the Tigers to wins against UTEP and Colorado College.
Penn State’s Emily Hurd was named Co-Freshman of the Week in the Big Ten after scoring against Nebraska and adding two assists against Iowa. Hurd last plied her trade in the W-League for the Seattle Sounders. Illinois goalkeeper Stephanie Panozzo also earned Big Ten honors after being named Defensive Player of the Week. The former Vancouver Whitecap recorded her fourth consecutive shutout with wins against Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Brittney Pavlica scored two game-winning goals last weekend to lead Western Michigan to wins against Central and Eastern Michigan. The former Kalamazoo Outrage player earned MAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors for her goal-scoring heroics.
