PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The Pittsburgh Riverhounds sign defender Mike Seth, forward Matt Fondy and midfielder Ben Horner for the 2011 campaign, pending USL and USSF approval. Seth returns for his second season with the Riverhounds, while Fondy and Horner break into the professional ranks following stellar collegiate careers.
Seth, a home-grown talent and Baldwin High School graduate, began his career with the Riverhounds as a reserve player in 2009 and worked hard to earn a roster spot in 2010. During his rookie season with the Hounds, Seth landed two starts and appeared in two additional matches. This past offseason, Seth focused on building his strength and consistency with the ball at his feet and will look to compete for quality time.
Fondy and Horner sparked the interest of the Riverhounds coaching staff after attending its invitational combine in late February. Fondy attended the combine after a brief stint with the San Jose Earthquakes of Major League Soccer.
Fondy comes to Pittsburgh after a four-year career at the University of California Santa Cruz. While at Santa Cruz Fondy found the back of the net multiple times and led the team in goals his sophomore (7), junior (8) and senior (14) seasons.
Horner, another home-grown talent and Butler High graduate, was a consistent face on the field for the Duquesne Dukes missing only two games his final three seasons. A solid central player, Horner will look to make an impact for the Hounds in 2011.
