TAMPA, Fla. – Maya Hayes just can’t stop scoring. The New Jersey Ranger is currently tearing up the Big Ten as well as the scoring charts for Penn State, leading the nation with 18 goals and 41 points this season. Hayes earned Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honors after she notched another two goals this weekend for her Nittany Lions in their 3-0 win against Indiana.
Former Chicago Red 11 defender Jenna Carosio picked up the Big Ten’s Defensive Player of the Week award after leading Illinois to a 1-0 double-overtime win against Michigan State. The win marked the Illini’s second consecutive shutout.
In the Big West Conference former LA Legend and current Long Beach State keeper Kaitlyn Gustaves took home Defensive Player of the Week honors after leading her side to an overtime victory against Cal State Fullerton. With the win, Gustaves lowered her goals-against average to 0.91 this season.
Toronto Lynx attacker Christine Exeter earned Big East Offensive Player of the Week honors after recording a pair of two-goal matches this past week. Her goals proved to be the difference in overtime wins for Louisville against Georgetown and Villanova.
Central Michigan’s Bailey Brandon took home the MAC Defensive Player of the Week after leading her side to wins against Miami and Bowling Green. The former London Gryphon also chipped in on offense, scoring and assisting on the game-winner against Bowling Green.
Alexa Newfield continued her hot season for Georgia notching two goals and two assists in dramatic wins against Mississippi State and Ole Miss. Newfield’s performance garnered SEC Offensive Player of the Week honors. Newfield featured for the 2011 W-League Champion Atlanta Silverbacks this season.
Jenna Carosio and Christine Exeter were both named to the Soccer America Women's Team of the Week as well for their performances.
