ORLANDO, Fla. -- Two players who played a key role in Orlando City’s USL PRO Championship will see out the season in Major League Soccer.
USL PRO Most Valuable Player Yordany Alvarez has joined Real Salt Lake on loan for the remainder of the season, while the Lions’ leading scorer in 2011 Maxwell Griffin will head to the San Jose Earthquakes, again on loan.
Alvarez has spend time recently with RSL, playing in a reserve team game for the 2009 MLS Cup Champion. A native of Cuba, Alvarez scored a pair of goals this season while helping the Lions to a championship in the club’s first season in Orlando.
A native of California who played college soccer at UCLA, Griffin scored 10 goals for the Lions in the USL PRO Regular Season and Playoffs.
Both players are under contract with Orlando City for the 2012 season and will return to the club for preseason in February.
