Orlando City News Release -- www.orlandocitysoccer.com

Thursday, September 1, 2011

ORLANDO, Fla. – Orlando City is proud to announce that goalkeeper Miguel Gallardo, defender Jerome Mechack, and midfielder/defender Wes Allen have all re-signed with the club. All three have signed multi-year deals.

“We’re delighted,” said Head Coach Adrian Heath. “Two of our longest serving players are back. [Gallardo and Allen have] been with us since day one [in Austin].”

Gallardo had an award-winning campaign in 2011 for Orlando City. After being a regular feature on the USL PRO Team of the Week, Gallardo was named the 2011 GAA Champion for having the league’s best Goals-Against-Average. He is also a finalist for Goalkeeper of the Year.

“I’m very excited and appreciative,” said Gallardo. “I’m looking forward to an even better season and helping Orlando City.”

Mechack also rejoins the club after a strong 2011 season. Mechack has been a rock in defense this season, but also scored his first goal this year with a booming, bending shot from 30 yards out to put the Lions up 2-0 against Richmond in last week’s playoff match.

“We’re pleased that Jerome has decided to commit to us again,” said Heath. “We think he’s improving all the time and see a bright future for him.”

Rounding out the signings is utility player Allen. While Allen has not seen much action for the Lions this season, but is a key back-up that gives Orlando great bench depth during the packed summer stretch of the USL PRO season.

“Wes has proved that when he comes in he can play,” said Heath. “He’s had more minutes than he did last year. We’re very happy to have him back with us.”

With three already signed, only two out of contract players remain. Neither of the two remaining players have indicated they are looking to leave Orlando.

“We’ve had no negative responses, the players all love playing in Orlando” said Heath. “We’re delighted that three of the five have signed, and I don’t think they’ll be the last.”
