TAMPA, Fla. – “USL Breakaway Magazine,” the fast-paced 30-minute highlight and feature show chronicling United Soccer Leagues and its system of elite-level amateur and professional leagues, debuts a new episode at 9 p.m. ET on Saturday, August 20 on FOX Soccer.
In the August episode, hosted by Mark Rogondino, we head to the 2011 Super-20 Championships Presented by Umbro, as the Columbus Crew Juniors defended their men’s title and Triangle FC captured the women’s trophy. Hosted by Brandon Flames FC in Tampa, Florida, the Super-20 Championships featured 16 of the top under-20 men’s and women’s teams from the U.S. and Canada. With the competition fierce, college stars and future professionals clashed for national championships.
Later in the show, we recap the 2011 W-League Championship Presented by Umbro, with the Atlanta Silverbacks capturing their first title with a stunning 6-1 victory against the previously undefeated Ottawa Fury. Ottawa cruised through the regular season led by W-League scoring champion and MVP Mallory Outerbridge, who sat down with “USL Breakaway Magazine” to discuss her path to the top of the league.
Great Moments in USL History looks at the 2005 New Jersey Wildcats, who featured several international stars as they captured the W-League championship. The Wildcats were led by U.S. stars Cat Reddick, Tobin Heath, Lindsay Tarpley and Heather O’Reilly, who were joined by England internationals Rachel Unitt and Rachel Yankey and Canadian star Karina LeBlanc.
Finally, we take a look at Antigua Barracuda FC, a unique entry into USL PRO that is backed by the Antigua and Barbuda Football Association and features many of the stars of the Caribbean nation’s national team. George Dublin, Barracuda FC’s veteran leader and captain, also serves as captain of the national team.
“USL Breakaway Magazine” is in its sixth season and has become a year-round fixture featuring monthly episodes thanks to a new three-year broadcast deal between USL and FOX Soccer. “USL Breakaway Magazine” is produced by Cultural Global Media Inc.
