DAYTON, Ohio – The Dayton Dutch Lions (2-14-6) suffered a painful 5-0 loss at Miami Valley South Stadium in Bellbrook on Wednesday night. It was Jhonny Arteaga who proved to be a nightmare for the Dutch Lions' defense, scoring four of the five goals.
The game started off with the Dutch Lions trying to built up from the back but they had problems holding the ball up front and creating depth. The only danger came from a couple of crosses from the outside by George Davis IV. New York had a lot of movement up front and the game was very even until New York took the lead through a great piece control of Arteaga, who received the ball in the air as he moved towards the Dayton goal before chipping over Brian Visser to make it 1-0. The Dutch Lions tried to get back in the game but did not get any further than a couple of shots off target.
In the second half Dayton had its best chance to get back in the game when Shane Smith got a through-ball on the left in the penalty area but shot just wide. The last 30 minutes of the game Dayton started to take more risks but New York was deadly on the counter-attack scoring four more goals (Arteaga three and Troy Cole one) to take a deserved win back to Queens, N.Y.
Arteaga also now leads USL PRO with 13 goals, putting him in line for the league's goal-scoring title.
