TAMPA, Fla. – The two teams to most recently punch their tickets for the playoffs meet in the USL PRO Game of the Week Friday when the Wilmington Hammerheads host the Los Angeles Blues live on FOX Soccer at 7 p.m. ET.
The Blues clinched a National Division playoff spot with a 2-1 win against Antigua Sunday, while Wilmington wrapped up an American division spot when Orlando City defeated Charleston Wednesday night. Friday night’s match at Legion Stadium will help to clarify playoff positioning in the final weeks of the regular season.
The Hammerheads (12-6-3) are 4-1-0 in their past five games and are chasing Orlando City for the top spot in the American Division. The Blues (8-5-7) currently sit third in the National Division, two points back of the Harrisburg City Islanders. In the only previous meeting between the teams, Wilmington took a 4-2 victory at Legion Stadium on July 2.
USL PRO’s broadcast team of Kenn Tomasch and former Georgetown University coach Keith Tabatznik will call the action from Wilmington.
The final USL PRO Game of the Week of the 2011 regular season is set for Friday, August 12 when the Charlotte Eagles travel to face the Charleston Battery in what could be the game that decides the final American Division playoff spot. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET.
