TAMPA, Fla. – United Soccer Leagues announced the USL PRO Team of the Week for Week 16 of the 2011 season today, honoring Wilmington Hammerheads midfielder Luke Mulholland as Player of the Week after he scored two goals and added an assist in a 3-1 victory against F.C. New York on Friday night.
Mulholland, a rookie, now leads USL PRO with 22 points and is tied for the league lead with nine goals. The 22-year-old has been on a tear of late, being named to the USL PRO Team of the Week for the third consecutive week. The victory against New York, combined with a 2-1 win against Harrisburg on Saturday night, now has the Hammerheads trailing American Division leader Orlando City by only three points with three games remaining in the regular season.
Mulholland is joined on the Team of the Week by teammate Chris Banks, who had a goal and an assist in the victory against Harrisburg. Banks is joined in the Team of the Week forward line by the Los Angeles Blues’ Peter Byers, who scored his first goal for the Blues in a 2-1 victory against his former side Antigua Barracuda FC on Sunday evening, and the Dayton Dutch Lions’ George Davis IV, whose seventh goal of the season proved to be a game-winner against F.C. New York on Sunday night.
Also named to the Team of the Week are two substitutes who found crucial goals for their respective sides last week. Rochester’s Drew Cost came on to great effect against the Charleston Battery on Saturday night, scoring the only goal of the game in the Rhinos’ 1-0 victory. Meanwhile Harrisburg midfielder Morgan Langley’s second goal of the season grabbed victory for the City Islanders in a 3-2 win against Dayton last Wednesday that kept them in the hunt for a home game to start the playoffs in the National Division.
