QUEENS, N.Y. - F.C. New York has signed Trinidadian goalkeeper Thorne Holder and Haitian striker Bony Pierre for the rest of the season as it continues its battle for a playoff spot in USL PRO.
Holder, a product of Adelphi University, was signed by the Philadelphia Union of Major League Soccer in March but failed to appear in any regular season games. He featured in four reserve league games, as well as playing the second half in a recent friendly against Everton F.C. in which he held the Barclays Premier League club scoreless.
Having played for F.C. New York Director of Soccer Carlo Aquista at Adelphi, the club knows what Holder is capable of.
“He is extremely athletic and commands attention on the field,” Aquista said.
Holder was the goalkeeper for the U-20 Trinidad & Tobago CONCACAF qualifying team in 2005, also starting for the U-23 Olympic pool.
Pierre is a member of the Haitian National Team, having come to the attention of the club via Boby Duval of Athletic de Haiti, a program that Friends of F.C. New York has supported since 2006. He was part of a friendly between Haiti and Harvard University in April where he scored once.
“Bony has a nose for the net,” interim coach Paul Shaw said.
F.C. New York’s final home game is Sunday, August 7 against the Rochester Rhinos at 2:00 p.m. Tickets start at $12 with group rates available, while students get in for only $5 with a valid ID. For purchasing and information please call 866-827-0154 or email tickets@fcnewyorksoccer.com.
