QUEENS, N.Y. - F.C. New York hosts the Wilmington Hammerheads on Friday and then travels to face the Dayton Dutch Lions on Sunday in an important weekend as its playoff push continues. Both matches kick off at 7:30 p.m.
New York finds itself with 18 points (4-9-6) after a loss to Harrisburg in its most recent game on July 20. The team has tried to regroup since then, increasing its practice schedule as well as adding to its attacking prowess, signing Puerto Rican international midfielder Chris Megaloudis, most recently with River Plate Puerto Rico, and Haitian international striker Bony Pierre.
Despite trailing Pittsburgh by five points in the fight for fourth place in the National Division of USL PRO, New York has played 19 games to the Riverhounds’ 21, giving the squad hope during the stretch run of its inaugural season.
The Hammerheads are in third place in the American Division with 33 points (10-6-3), having defeated the Charlotte Eagles 3-0 on July 23.
“Three points at home against Wilmington is a must on Friday,” interim coach Paul Shaw said.
Although Dayton is in last place in the National Division with nine points (1-12-6), Shaw isn’t expecting an easy game.
“Dayton has had some good results lately and we will have to focus to get a positive result,” Shaw said.
F.C. New York’s final home game is Sunday, August 7 against the Rochester Rhinos at 2 p.m. Tickets start at $12 with group rates available, while students get in for only $5 with a valid ID. For purchasing and information please call 866-827-0154 or email tickets@fcnewyorksoccer.com.
