TAMPA, Fla. – United Soccer Leagues today announced the Super-20 League All-Tournament Teams, honoring the Columbus Crew Jrs’ Andrew Farrell and Triangle FC’s Ashley Clark as the men’s and women’s tournament Most Valuable Players after they led their respective sides to championships this past weekend at the 2011 Super-20 League North American Finals presented by Umbro.
Farrell scored twice in the Crew’s five games, but was a key figure in their midfield, providing creativity as the side scored 16 goals, including a 4-1 victory against the Toronto Lynx in the final. He is joined on the Men’s All-Tournament team by teammates Ben Speas and Eriq Zavaleta, who combined for nine of the team’s goals, and defender Nick Haggland, who had a goal in the championship game and marshaled a defense that conceded just once throughout the tournament. Speas was selected by the Crew’s coaching staff as their tournament MVP.
Clark scored five goals for Triangle as they took the Women’s Championship for the third time in four seasons with a thrilling 4-3 victory against Reading United. Clark, who was also selected by Triangle’s coaches as their MVP, scored twice in the championship game, including the game-winning goal in overtime. She is joined on the Women’s All-Tournament team by strike partner Samantha Burch, midfielder Farrell Sweeney and defender Caitlin Ball.
