TAMPA, Fla. – The United Soccer Leagues W-League has announced its 2011 All-League Team, featuring five players headed to this weekend’s W-League Championship Presented by Umbro in Seattle. The 2011 W-League All-League Team was selected through a vote of team management.
The undefeated Ottawa Fury, Central Conference champions and the top seed at this weekend’s championship, lead all teams with three players chosen to the team. League goal scoring and points leader Mallory Outerbridge (forward) earns her first selection to the W-League All-League Team following a dominating season, and she is joined by teammates Amanda Fancher (defense) and Jessica Shufelt (midfield).
The Vancouver Whitecaps, who punched their ticket to the final four with a thrilling 4-3 victory against Santa Clarita in the Western Conference Championship, are represented on the team by midfielder Tiffany Weimer. Weimer tallied seven goals and four assists as the Whitecaps finished second in the Western Conference.
Atlanta midfielder Megan Tomlinson is one of two players making their second consecutive appearance on the W-League All-League Team. Tomlinson, who recorded six goals and an assist in seven games, helped the Silverbacks get past Charlotte for the Eastern Conference title. Also making a return appearance on the W-League All-League Team is veteran defender Sue Weber of the Long Island Rough Riders. A member of the 2010 and 2008 W-League All-League Teams, Weber helped the Rough Riders to the Northeast Division title while surrendering only seven goals in 10 games.
Rounding out the squad are a pair of W-League Rookie of the Year candidates in Santa Clarita goalkeeper Cynthia Jacobo and 17-year-old Colorado Rush forward Lindsey Horan, along with MVP candidate Edite Fernandes of Santa Clarita and defenders Sasha Andrews of Pali and Christine Exeter from Toronto.
