TAMPA, Fla. – The United Soccer Leagues W-League announced its 2011 All-Conference Teams today, honoring the standout players who led one of the most competitive regular seasons in league history. The W-League All-Conference Teams, selected through a vote of team management, feature some of the top young women’s soccer talent in the world.
The Eastern Conference champion Atlanta Silverbacks, headed to the 2011 W-League Championship Presented by Umbro in Seattle this weekend, are well represented with three selection to the all-conference team, including midfielder Megan Tomlinson who was named for the second consecutive season. Goalkeeper Ashley Baker and forward Tiffini Turpin join Tomlinson in representing Atlanta.
Also named to the Eastern Conference team is Long Island Rough Riders defensive leader Sue Weber, earning her second consecutive selection and third selection overall.
As expected the Central Conference team is dominated by the Ottawa Fury, who capped an undefeated regular season by cruising through the conference finals. League scoring champion Mallory Outerbridge highlights the Ottawa selections, earning the nod after tallying 17 goals and three assists in 12 games. Outerbridge is joined by goalkeeper Jasmine Phillips, defender Amanda Fancher and midfielder Jessica Shufelt.
The Vancouver Whitecaps and Santa Clarita Blue Heat each placed three players on the Western Conference team, including two of the top scorers in the league in Santa Clarita’s Edite Fernandes and Vancouver’s Sydney Leroux. They are joined by 17-year-old phenom Lindsey Horan of the Colorado Rush, who emerged as an offensive force with eight goals in 10 games.
The Ottawa Fury, Atlanta Silverbacks and Vancouver Whitecaps will join the host Seattle Sounders Women at the 2011 W-League Championship Presented by Umbro July Friday & Sunday at Starfire Sports Complex in Seattle, Washington.
The W-League All-League Team will be announced on Tuesday, July 26. The finalists for Coach of the Year, Defender of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player will be announced on Wednesday, July 27, with the awards presented at the W-League Championship banquet in Seattle on Thursday, July 28. Goalkeeper of the Year will also be presented at the banquet.
