DAYTON, Ohio -- The Dayton Dutch Lions earned another point at home against the Charleston Battery in a 2-2 draw on Saturday night for their first home match since June 4th this USL PRO season.
The Battery took the lead early in the first half after a bad clearance from the sidelines in the 13th minute from the Dutch Lions. Midfielder Nicholas Paterson received a pass from midfielder Alex Caskey and placed the ball in the upper left corner of the net just past Dutch Lions goalkeeper Brian Visser making the score 1-0.
Each side took their turn to try and find the back of the net, but the Dutch Lions found their equalizer in the 18th minute when Eric Kissinger played the ball across to George Davis IV who finished the opportunity for his sixth goal of the season. Both teams continued fighting and creating many scoring opportunities on both ends.
Charleston retook the lead 2-1 in the 41st minute after Paterson converted his second goal of the match assisted by Seedy Bah. But just before the halftime whistle, the Dutch Lions received a corner kick. Davis played the ball to the back post where Happy Hall headed the ball in goal making the score 2-2.
Both teams continued to create many close chances in the second half, but neither were able to capitalize on their opportunities.
“It was a very disappointing tie tonight as I believe we dominated the majority of the game. There were some questionable plays tonight that I believe should have resulted in penalty kicks but we didn’t get the calls,” said Head Coach Ivar van Dineteren.
The Dutch Lions will continue to look for their second win of the USL PRO season at Miami Valley South Stadium this Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. against Harrisburg. Visit the Dutch Lions website at www.dutchlionsfc.com for more information and follow the action on Twitter @Daytondutchlion.
