DAYTON, Ohio – The Dayton Dutch Lions (1-12-5) will finally head back to Miami Valley South Stadium to host the Charleston Battery (9-6-4) on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. The Dutch Lions have not had a home match since June 4th.
Dayton and Charleston have met twice this season with Charleston getting the slight edge both times. The Battery beat the Dutch Lions 1-0 April 16th in Dayton and by the same result on June 17th in Charleston.
In Dayton’s previous four games, they have scored first each time, but relinquished the lead because of fatigue and lack of players. Head Coach Ivar van Dinteren is still confident after all his team has been through.
“It is tough to play nine games in one month, while having a lot of injuries and suspensions," van Dinteren said, "but we will never give up and still play our own game despite lacking players. On Saturday we will go for the win and hope we play well too.”
Charleston is 2-0-1 in July, knocking off Orlando and Wilmington and drawing with Los Angeles. They are currently sitting in third place in the American Division with 31 points behind the Richmond Kickers with 33 points. The Battery will certainly be looking to escape from Dayton with three points to hopefully overtake Richmond. Dayton is sitting in last place with eight points in the National Division picking up big road points in the past couple of weeks against strong opponents Los Angeles, Harrisburg, and Orlando.
The Dutch Lions won their last home match against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds in early June, so they will be hoping to use that momentum to close out their season where five of their last six matches are at Miami Valley South Stadium.
Dayton hopes to draw a good crowd as they are hosting a charity donation night for the US Soccer Foundation’s Passback Program. Anyone that brings gently used soccer gear to donate will gain admission to the game for only $5. The Dutch Lions want to see a lot of fans support the cause and the team.
