GARDEN CITY, N.Y. -- F.C. New York is pleased to announce the club has been invited by the Guyana Football Federation to tour Guyana in February of 2012 as part of their preseason preparation for the 2012 season.
Garth Nelson, on behalf of the Guyana Football Federation and President Colin Klass, wrote that the GFF “would like to invite F.C. New York to participate in a three games tour in Guyana. The venture will be a positive boost to Guyana’s football.”
“We have the largest population of Guyanese people outside Guyana and they have shown support for our team in our inaugural season,” New York’s President Doug Petersen said. “With this trip I hope we can gain even more positive exposure as F.C. New York continues to grow globally.”
F.C. New York will play three matches on the tour, opening with a contest against 2011-12 CONCACAF Champions League qualifiers Alpha United on February 6. The side will also face MileRoc FC, the 2010 Guyana Super League runner-up and Caribbean Football Union Club Championship qualifier and the Guyana U23 men’s national team.
F.C. New will also make a stop in Trinidad and Tobago to face 2010-11 TT Pro League runner-up AIA Caledonia.
The last professional team to visit Guyana was current English Championship side Hull City in 1974.
Tentative Tour Schedule
Feb 5th -- Travel and arrival in Guyana
Feb 6th -- Training and MEDIA/ PR - Match v Alpha United (2011-12 CONCACAF Champions League qualifier)
Feb 8th -- Match v MileRoc FC (CFU Club Championship qualifiers)
Feb 10th -- Match v Guyana U23 National Team
Feb 11th -- Depart Guyana to Port of Spain Trinidad and play Caledonia AIA from TT Pro League
