Thursday, July 21, 2011

TAMPA, Fla. – United Soccer Leagues today announced the USL Premier Development League Team of the Week for Week 11 of the season, honoring River City Rovers midfielder Albert Edward as Player of the Week after he had four goals in the Rovers’ 5-4 victory against Cincinnati last Saturday, ending the club’s inaugural home schedule on a high note.

Edward had a pair of goals coming into the game, but after Lwandiso Gonya had opened the scoring for River City, only for the Kings to take a 2-1 lead, Edward took over. He scored one in the first half and then added another three in 15 minutes following the break to give the Rovers a lead they were able to hold on to.

Orange County forward David Ponce also had a standout week, scoring a hat trick in the Blue Star’s 6-3 win against the Los Angeles Legends, while Fresno’s Tyler Reinhart helped his side secure a playoff berth and move to the top of the Southwest Division standings with a pair of goals in the Fuego’s 3-1 victory against Southern California.

Other players had key contributions as their sides closed in on the PDL playoffs, which begin next week, with Long Island’s Danny Kramer scoring the game-winning goal as the Rough Riders took a 2-0 victory against New Jersey to move on top of the Mid Atlantic Division, while Chris Tweed-Kent’s goal kept the Carolina Dynamo on course for the playoffs in the South Atlantic Division with a 2-0 victory against Fredericksburg.

Juan de dios Ibarra had a goal and assist as Laredo kept up their pursuit of the Mid South Division crown, while Anthony Putrus also had a goal for 2010 PDL Finalist Thunder Bay as it defeated WSA Winnipeg 3-0 to remain in contention for the Heartland Division title.
