HARRISBURG, Pa. – The Harrisburg City Islanders defeated F.C. New York on Wednesday night in an entertaining 5-1 win in front of 1,563 fans at Skyline Sports Complex on City Island. Midfielder Andrew Welker led the way for the City Islanders with a hat trick, while Sainey Touray and Jose Angulo also scored for the City Islanders. The win moves the City Islanders within one point of USL PRO National Division leader Rochester Rhinos.

It was the City Islanders who would draw first blood in the 10th minute as midfielder Nelson Becerra passed the ball through his legs to defender Stephen Basso who would cross the ball to Welker for the right-footed goal. It was Welker’s sixth goal of the season. Welker would strike again in the 22nd minute, forward Sainey Touray delivered the ball to Welker’s head for the goal. For the grand finale of the first half, Welker would treat his team and fans to another goal to complete his hat trick. Touray dribbled through F.C. New York’s defense, getting a knick on the ball, landing in Welker’s feet for the clean-up. Welker is only the second player in City Islanders franchise history to achieve a hat trick. The other hat-trick came from Sumed Ibrahim back in 2005 at home against the Long Island Rough Riders.

In the second half, Welker completed a pass to Nelson Becerra who would rainbow the ball to Touray’s head for a fourth goal. The header earned Touray’s sixth goal of the season and Becerra’s second assist. F.C. New York was able to pull a goal back in the 61st minute as forward Jhonny Arteaga was fouled inside the City Islanders box by goalkeeper Chase Harrison, earning his team a penalty kick. After the first penalty kick was called off by the referees, Arteaga launched the penalty kick into the right side netting again for the goal. The penalty kick was Arteaga’s seventh goal of the season.

The City Islanders would restore their four-goal lead in the 80th minute as midfielder J.T. Noone dribbled through numerous F.C. New York defenders to split the defense and send the ball to forward Jose Angulo for a 60-yard breakaway, sliding his shot past goalkeeper Steve Diaz. Angulo’s clinical finish earned him his seventh goal of the season. The City Islanders earned their eighth win of the season as well as their sixth home win. They are now the leading scorers in USL PRO with 31 and have scored the most goals at home with 23.
