TAMPA, Fla. – United Soccer Leagues announced the final W-League Team of the Week for the 2011 season today, with Andréanne Gagné of the Quebec City Amiral taking home Player of the Week honors. The Canadian midfielder scored four times, including two game-winners, in the Amiral’s two wins last week.
“Our last two games were must-wins and Andréanne has taken charge,” Quebec City Head Coach Samir Ghrib said. “She has been fantastic. Her two goals against Laval were absolute bombs. And her finishing against Rochester was equally opportunistic. She is a big reason why we enter the playoffs with great momentum.”
Gagné is hitting her form at the perfect time as the Amiral prepare for the Central Conference playoffs this weekend in Ottawa. Quebec City will play Laval once more in their semi-final match. Fresh off a two-goal performance against Laval last week Gagné hopes to replicate her form against the fellow Quebec side.
Gagné was not the only player to put in a commanding performance last week in the W-League. Melissa Busque and Vanessa Legault-Cordisco were busy pulling the strings for Ottawa and Laval respectively, each notching a goal and two assists in their matches. Mandi Back had another complete performance, scoring twice and assisting on two more in Dayton’s season finale win.
