WILMINGTON, N.C. -- After a disappointing 90th minute loss to the Charleston Battery on Thursday night, the Wilmington Hammerheads return to Legion Stadium on Saturday night to host the Harrisburg City Islanders. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. and the game will be streamed live on USLlive.com.
Saturday night will be the first match up between the Hammerheads and the City Islanders. While Harrisburg sits in second in the National Division and the Hammerheads are fourth in the American, the teams have very similar records. Last weekend the Hammerheads earned six points after beating Antigua twice, and after Thursday night have a record of 8-5-3 for 27 points. Harrisburg, although in a higher rank in their division than the Hammerheads, currently has a record of 7-4-4 for 25 points.
After having a successful weekend in Antigua, the Hammerheads were defeated in a midweek match up with the Charleston Battery. Wilmington will be sure to come into Saturday’s game ready to return to winning ways, especially with playoff positions on the line as the end of the season draws near.
Harrisburg has not been defeated since their last meeting with Rochester on June 21. The City Islanders have been playing consistently well in the past few weeks, scoring four goals against Charlotte on July 2 and defeating Los Angeles June 26 after tying them two nights before. Trailing the Rochester Rhinos by five points, but with a pair of games in hand, the City Islanders will be looking to close the gap on the current National Division leaders.
With about four weeks left of regular season play in the USL PRO, both teams will be scrambling for the three points to escalate their position for playoffs.
