TAMPA, Fla. – The field for the 2011 United Soccer Leagues Super-20 North American Finals presented by Umbro was set today as 16 teams representing some of the best young men’s and women’s talent will descend upon Tampa, Fla. The event is set for July 21-24 at the J.C. Handley Sports Complex.
The Thursday-Sunday event will bring together the top 17- to 20-year-old men’s and women’s talent from Super-20 League clubs throughout the United States and Canada. Teams have battled throughout the summer in six men’s and five women’s divisions for the opportunity to compete for national championships.
The men’s field contains 12 teams, including two that have yet to lose a match this season. One of those teams, the Columbus Crew (7-0-1) of the Midwest Division, is the defending Super-20 Men’s champion. The Crew will be joined by fellow undefeated side FFC Elite (6-0-2) who finished top in the Pacific Southern California Division.
The Women’s field is highlighted by Victoria Highlanders FC (5-0-0) which enters the tournament with an unblemished record. The Toronto Lynx Jrs. (7-0-1) are also undefeated and will look to one up their compatriots at the Super-20 North American Finals presented by Umbro.
The sixth annual Super-20 League North American Finals presented by Umbro are being hosted by the Brandon Flames of the USL Super Y-League. The nine-field J.C. Handley Sports Complex recently underwent a multi-million dollar upgrade to become one of the preeminent soccer complexes in Florida.
