Wilmington Hammerheads News Release -- www.wilmingtonhammerheads.com

Monday, February 28, 2011

WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Wilmington Hammerheads are pleased to announce that former UNC-Wilmington soccer standouts Brock Duckworth and Devan Carroll are the most recent additions to the 2011 roster.

Out of Plano East High School in Plano, Texas, Duckworth was a four-year starting goalkeeper for the Seahawks. He finished both his junior and senior season nationally ranked in goals against average and save percentage.

In 2009, Brock helped the Seahawks to their first NCAA tournament appearance as he posted a 0.64 goals against average and was ranked second nationally with a .886 save average. Duckworth is UNCW’s all-time leader in goals against average with a 1.07 GAA.

Hammerheads Head Coach David Irving was pleased with the addition of Duckworth to his squad.

“Brock had a great collegiate career and now has a great opportunity to make his mark at the professional level," Irving said. "I am confident that he will make his mark as a Hammerhead."

A native of Jacksonville, N.C. and a White Oak High School graduate, forward Devan Carroll was named the Colonial Athletic Association’s Player of the Year in 2008 when UNCW won its first regular season conference title and hosted the conference championship. Carroll had 10 goals in three seasons, nine of those goals scored in 2008.

“Devan will be a very effective player for us with his quickness and ability to put the ball in the back of the net," Irving said. "He has great pace and knows where the goal is.”

The Hammerheads begin their season at home on April 16, 2011 against the Rochester Rhinos. Ticket prices for games are $10 of adults, $8 for seniors (65+), and $6 for children 12 & under. Special group ticket rates are available. Contact the Hammerhead office for more information.
