CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Charleston Battery squares off with its USL PRO American Division rival the Wilmington Hammerheads this Thursday at Blackbaud Stadium; gates open at 6 p.m. with kick off set for 7:30 p.m. The Battery (8-6-4) defeated the first-place Orlando City Lions 1-0 last Saturday night and enters Thursday’s match in third place just one point ahead of the Hammerheads (8-4-3).
Rookie midfielder Alex Caskey notched a second-half header to lift Charleston past Orlando on Saturday in a game that was delayed for almost two-hours because of severe weather; Caskey’s game-winning goal was his first as a professional.
Charleston and Wilmington have played twice already this season with the Hammerheads winning the first match 3-0 back on May 21 and the Battery defeating Wilmington 2-0 in a game played on June 24. Both previous matches were played at the Hammerheads’ Legion Stadium.
Charleston Battery head coach Mike Anhaeuser will be without the services of midfielder JC Mack who remains sidelined with a foot injury. Defender Graham Dugoni (back) resumed full training this week; there are no other injury doubts ahead of the game.
The Wilmington Hammerheads enter the match on the back of a pair of away wins in Antigua last weekend. The Hammerheads beat the Antigua Barracuda FC 1-0 on Friday night and 3-2 on Sunday afternoon. Wilmington midfielder Chris Banks will be unavailable for selection Thursday as he serves a suspension for a red-card received on Sunday.
