OCEAN CITY, N.J. -- The Ocean City Nor’easters fell to Reading United Sunday night at Carey Stadium, 4-1. Ocean City stands at 1-6-6 on the season.
Reading came into the game ranked in the top spot in the Mid-Atlantic Division standings and Ocean City was looking to pull off the upset for its second win of the season. The game also featured the halftime Emergency Services game between the Ocean City Police and Fire Departments. The night featured two exciting matchups for the crowd of 878 to look forward to.
The Nor’easters got off to a quick start, with Jack Bailey able to break free for not one, but two, one-on-ones with the goalkeeper, but was not able to get it past Reading keeper Brian Holt. Reading got on the board first in the 37th minute, thanks to Evans Frimpong. Frimpong’s goal would stand and give Reading a 1-0 halftime lead.
After the Ocean City Police Department triumphed at halftime, the Nor’easters hoped to do the same in the second half. They were able to tie it up in the 57th minute, on a goal by Chris Williams. Williams received a great kick from goalkeeper John McCarthy, and buried it. Ocean City fought to stay in the game, but Reading showed why it sits in first, scoring three times late in the game. Christian Barreiro gave Reading the lead in the 72nd minute, and would add another just seven minutes later. Matt Sanner rounded out the scoring in the 89th minute, assisted by Barreiro.
With just three games left, the Nor’easters will try to end 2011 on a high note. Their quest begins Wednesday, July 13 when they take on the New Jersey Rangers in their final road game of the year. Ocean City returns to the Beach House Sunday, July 17 against the Westchester Flames at 6 p.m. Adult tickets are $6 and Youth are $4.
