Rochester Rhinos News Release -- www.rhinossoccer.com

Friday, July 8, 2011

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Rochester Rhinos received goals from Max Ferdinand, Kendall Jagdeosingh and Tyler Rosenlund, propelling them to their ninth win of the season as they defeated cross-state rival F.C. New York 3-1 in front of 5,176 fans on Friday night at Sahlen’s Stadium.

It didn’t take long for the Rhinos to get on the board as Rochester scored their quickest goal of the season in the fourth minute. Tony Donatelli slid a ball to Jagdeosingh down low in the New York penalty area, and his driven ball across the front of the net was deflected in by Ferdinand for his first goal of the season.

Rochester had an opportunity to double their advantage in the 11th minute but Andrew Hoxie’s blast from 13 yards was swallowed up by Derby Carrillo. But the Rhinos wouldn’t be denied two minutes later as Ferdinand returned the favor from his opening goal, setting up Jagdeosingh for his fourth goal of the season off a header and a 2-0 Rochester lead.

“Max was a big plus for us today and the past few games” said Jagdeosingh. “When he gets the ball we can leave him and try to make runs into the box. All of us are comfortable getting the ball to him and when we get it to him, he can make something positive. He has definitely done that in the past few games.”

Rochester had the better run of play during most of the first half, but New York threatened in the 38th minute when a corner kick was headed just high over the crossbar.

Rochester added to its lead in the 40th minute when Rosenlund cut back inside the 18 driving a low hard shot that deflected off an F.C. New York defender and beat the Carillo to make the score 3-0.

Moments before the first half ended New York cut into the Rochester lead when Kyle Hoffer’s volley beat Neal Kitson to make the score 3-1.

Rochester appeared to increase their lead once again to three goals in the 61st minute however a second Jagdeosingh goal was called offside.

F.C. New York’s bid to make a comeback didn’t get easier when Josiah Snelgrove was ejected from the match for serious foul play in taking down Ferdinand in the New York end of the field, and they rarely threatened to get back into the game as the Rhinos extended their lead in the National Division to six points over the Harrisburg City Islanders.

Rochester will take on Orlando City next Saturday, July 16th on the road beginning at 6:30 p.m. The match will be televised live on FOX Soccer.
